Among the great things about Los Angeles are the mid-century and Googie-style buildings that dot our landscape. There used to be more of them, but many of these architectural gems have met with the wrecking ball over the years. Many supermarkets were built in these styles, and a few of them remain.
The Superior store in Highland Park is currently being threatened with a “renovation” that would destroy it forever. Preservationists are waging the good fight against it. Here are some photos of this great store, as well as a couple of other supermarkets that have managed to keep their classic looks.
