Video: “Los Angeles Plays Itself”

I had heard about the somewhat notorious film “Los Angeles Plays Itself” for some time now. It explores how our fair city has been depicted on film, using movie clips from said films. However, the movie was never released because of rights issues. So I thought I’d never see until I found the entire thing on YouTube. It is long — two hours and 45 minutes, but it is definitely worth your time.

The only criticism I have of the film is that the narration is dull. The narrator speak in a monotone and is very negative about almost everything. A film like this could have been fun; this film is not fun at all, but it still fascinating to see the city — the things that are no longer here, and the things that still are.
